eWaste Africa winner of the Young Entrepreneur Award at the South African Premier Business Awards 2016

In 2016 eWaste Africa was the proud winner of the Young Entrepreneur Award at the South African Premier Business Awards (SAPBA). This award recognises 100% youth-owned enterprises trading in South Africa and young individuals who demonstrate high levels of entrepreneurship and innovation.

eWaste Africa is South Africa’s first environmentally ethical, legally compliant, light bulb recycling solution, it opened its doors officially 3 years ago when the first Balcan Light Bulb Recycling Plant was officially commissioned and opened in South Africa.

Speaking on why eWaste Africa chose to enter the SAPBA in 2016, Mr Pravashen Naidoo said, “the awards are seen as a great opportunity to try and network with the captains of industry, never in our wildest dreams did we think we would make the finals let alone win the award”.

The South African Premier Business Awards seek to recognise business excellence and honours enterprises that promote the spirit of success and innovation as well as job creation, good business ethics and quality. These awards bring together all single sectored awards, among others technology, manufacturing and women in business.

“Since winning the Young Entrepreneur Award in 2016, we have gone from 13 employees to 20 employees in under a year, we have increased our footprint nationally for collections and recycling. We were also announced as the winner of the Eskom BIC Trade and Services award. The credibility and media coverage that we have been afforded due to the awards is priceless, we as a business know that our turnover and impact in saving the environment has gone up substantially in the last year, adds Mr Naidoo.

The 5th instalment of the annual SAPBA will be held in Johannesburg on 7th December 2017. Qualifying companies are urged to enter for one or more categories. All submissions will be subject to adjudication by an expert panel of judges.

“Make sure you are constantly innovating. The reason people choose you is that you offer something different. Whatever that difference is, it must become the foundation of your business”, concludes Mr Naidoo.
